Hi,

I'm trying to configure qmail-scanner on RH 7.3 and 9 with ClamAV (and
on some servers SpamAssassin too). Trouble is, these servers are running
Plesk 5 and 6 (www.plesk.com) for shared web hosting, and as such, I do
not have access to a Plesk qmail SRPM that I can recompile with the
qmailqueue patch.

I've been using ART's (www.atomicrocketturtle.com) (S)RPM of
qmail-scanner on the testing server. I've had a read through the spec
file for this RPM, and it generates the qmail-scanner-queue.pl via this
configure line:

./configure \$* --batch --log-details syslog --no-QQ-check --qmail-queue-binary
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-queue.orig

I should add that the RPM uses qmail-scanner 1.20rc3 with the patch
qmail-scanner-1.20rc3-qvcs. I'm currently working on updating the RPM to
1.20, but I'd rather like to know if it's somethings else, and not break
a server with it yet.

The problem is that while some mail continues through, other mail is
held up. (Not in the queue, but somewhere else). Specifically, vbulletin
notification mails appear to be held up, amongst other types of email.

When qmail-scanner is removed, all of the mail that's been held up is
delivered properly over the next 10 minutes or so. (I had about 100
mails appear in my inbox within the next few minutes).

I should add that qmail scanner does its job remarkably well. It did
stop and quarantine many, many viruses, and SpamAssassin worked as well
as usual :)

Preferably though, (on some of the boxes with larger mail throughputs)
to scanning every mail, would be to simply drop windows executable
attachments, and append a note to mails with these attached, warning
that they are a security risk. I know that qmail-scanner's default is to
quarantine and to send a note to admin and sender, but I wouldn't
imagine that it'd be too hard for me to hack this up? Any tips?

Regards,

Robert.
