Anyway, I'm not going to mess around with this anymore -- I'm using the C wrapper. The one comfort I can take from this discussion is that it will be archived, so that other people can be spared this grief.

That's your choice. Not only is it documented as an option in Q-S, I
specifically suggested you think about it. The fact that you carried on
about it made me continue responding.

I may have overlooked your mention of the wrapper.

It's the last option in the FAQ, so I considered it the "last resort". As far as ease of use goes, it's incredibly easy to make work.

So: final comment. You manually upgraded to 5.8.2, specifically
installed suidperl support, but it doesn't work.

I'm saying RH9 with the standard RPMs that come with it is all you need
to have a "working install" of perl. I stand by that.

As you require 5.8.2 for other reasons, then yes, the wrapper might be
your best option. If 5.8.2 is that bad WRT suidperl, you are correct,
Q-S may very well need to drop support for suidperl and go exclusively
with the C-wrapper.

Of all the things that could possibly go wrong, suidperl issues do
appear to be top of the list on all platforms for Q-S :-(

Well, it's nice to get some acknowledgment of that. I'm not trying to be difficult.

Anyway, the C wrapper works nicely.

Cheers,
