Strange - the "Illegel MIME" code is to do with looking for line breaks at the wrong positions, bogus MIME comments, etc. There is absolutely no "block 8bit" type code in there (I'm not as ignorant as that ;-) I think you may be leaping to the conclusion this is a language issue, when it is in fact a broken MUA issue.
