I've got the darndest problem. It appears that random emails occasionally
disappear for an unknown reason, from /var/spool/qmailscan/archives/new. The
reason I know this is because every once in a while, I do an "ls |wc -l" to
see how many emails are in the folder. Now usually over time, the number
increases, but occasionally a couple thousand just "disappear". The other
reason I have observed it, is because once in a while, I will "grep -l" for
a particular phrase and get one or two files as the response. But then, 10
minutes later, the same grep produces no listing.

I thought maybe there was a limit on the number of files I could have in a
folder (Linux, ext2 filesystem), so I initiated a cron job that tars up the
emails and moves them to a backup, every few days. But ... This did not fix
the issue.

Anybody got any ideas what's going on?
