Dear Gert-Jan,
Yes, the broad statement was intentional. Please only submit maps if
you're fine with it.
The design will certainly be cropped because we have to design graphics
of different shape and size. Other changes may be applied as well to
ensure that the graphics go well with our overall design.

Anita

Hi Anita,
Sorry to be a hair-splitter, but the "Both grayscale and color designs
can be submitted. We reserve the right to decide how to eventually use
them" could be interpreted very broad ;-)
I do suppose that the design will be used as designed, and NOT
cropped, rotated, skewed or otherwise adjusted by any graphic filter?

Gert-Jan

Hi Rayond,
Thank you for the questions! I meant to include image size requirements
in the instructions but it seems like I didn't. I've now added minimum
resolution requirements (3000x2000px) and further clarifications to the
submission form.
Please DON'T submit finished splash screens. We need the raw map /
graphics to create all the graphics that are needed for a release
design.
Both grayscale and color designs can be submitted. We reserve the right
to decide how to eventually use them.
The form now states "By uploading your map you grant QGIS.ORG unlimited
rights to use the map. Please do NOT submit graphics which are protected
be somebody else's copyright!". If a checkbox is needed for legal
reasons, please let me know.
I'd stick with "Pi" rather than the greek character for simplicity
Regards,
Anita

Hi Anita,
Great challenge for the (boring!) weekend. :)
Could you provide some guidelines for submissions?
I tried to find the image dimensions and came to 600x300 px, but that
is the splash screen size for the dev version. The 3.12 splash screen
is 1977x946 px.
Can colours be used or should it be gray scale and made green in the
style of the other 3.x splash screens?
In the announcement of the 3.12 splash screen you refer to the GIMP
file in the "QGIS graphics folder on Google Drive" but I don't have a
link. Could you share it, or share the GIMP file in another way?
Shouldn't the submission form contain a checkbox for sharing the image
as GPL2 or something else to make sure it does not contain copyrighted
material and QGIS can use it?
And wondering, will we go for "Pi" or "π" (the Greek character, I'm
not even sure the email software will show this correctly...) :)
Thanks and have a nice weekend!

Dear QGIS mappers,
As you may have noticed, the next release version will be 3.14 and
therefore, we will call it 'Pi'.
Usually our versions are named for community meeting locations and the
splash screen shows a map related to this location.
For 3.14 we are looking for creative maps that capture the essence of
Pi.
All submissions will receive an honorable mention in the release blog
post.
The winner will see their map on the release splash screen and
banner on
qgis.org.
To participate, please submit your maps at
https://forms.gle/DbLL3BfvwYw33qfJ8
The deadline is 31st May 2020.
Regards,
Anita
