I have added a geodesic transformation function that resizes, rotates, and moves/translates vector features to the Shape Tools Processing toolbox. This works independent of the layer CRS or project CRS. The transformed shapes retain their relative geometry and area even if the source projection is in degrees.
Eventually, I would like to create interactive geodesic editing tools, but I haven't had the time to figure out how to do it. http://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/shapetools/ Enjoy!!! Calvin
