Not that I know, but for polygons you could temporarily make layer half transparent, then you can see the selections 'trough' the overlaying one. The map/node tools are just working then. With points this more or less works also, depending on the shape/color you use. So not sure if that would work... But maybe we could do a feature request to copy the selected points as 'selected points' or so? Though I do see the problem there that this maybe can be resource hungry when selecting a lot of points...
