If you fire up ArcEdit what are the coordinates at some comparable location in QGIS? (as opposed to the coordinates usage in AML)
Or if you view the A/I coverage in another software like ArcView 3.x/ArcMap, are the coordinates the same in QGIS? Maybe try converting your coverage to a shapefile, and see if there is a difference? Another option is to set no coordinate system, or disable 'project on the fly', and see what the coordinates are for the data. Just some suggestions, I really cant explain why there difference. AFAIK, A/I coverages shouldnt matter, but they are rather archaic.
