Hi Stephen, what happens if you ignore the message and still request for the export? It should work imo though I'm not that sure the result will match your expectations. give it a try!
Blended modes might be http://docs.qgis.org/testing/en/docs/user_manual/introduction/general_tools.html#blending-modes Given that it's a setting available in almost all configurable items (layer, feature, label, print composer items) it'd be hard to point you to a single and right place.
