@Ramon, You'll find that QGIS is being used in increasingly wider circles.
We are using it at the Australian Bureau of Meteorology as one of our Desktop GIS products. I know of others in other departments in Federal and State government as well. @Grant, Also try asking on the OSGeo AustNZ list [1]. The list is fairly quiet, but there are many people on it.
