On Mac OS X, from William Kyngesburye in the "Read me" file "Max Open Files
OS X has a hardwired limit of 256 open files per process. What this means for QGIS is that there is a limit to the number of shapefile layers in a project, because QGIS keeps the shapefiles open. Because shapefiles are a collection of a minimum of 3 files, the maximum shapefile layers is 84 (I think shapefiles are opened in a separate process from QGIS, otherwise QGIS would not be able to run)" -- View this message in context: http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/Is-there-a-limit-for-the-nb-of-vector-layers-in-a-QGIS-Project-tp5084313p5085949.html Sent from the Quantum GIS - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ Qgis-user mailing list [email protected] http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user
