Has > anyone been able to create a vrt with qgis? > All gdal .exe tools (buildvrt, contour, rasterize, nearblack, warp, grid, translate, information, assign projection, build overviews) display this error, but they return also a correct result, so you can load the output result by adding the output as raster/vector layer.
