Not sure what the future is of QML inside QGIS, but on some debian blog it was mentioned that this https://www.ics.com/events/qml-programming-fundamentals-and-beyond is a 'free' (if you provide a corporate email address) course to learn about QML and Qt. The blogger was talking about a 4 days course and was pretty positive about it (but I haven't looked to it myself) ... So if you want to tip your toes in QML...
