Well, you might just start by testing the files produced by Epsilon before inventing a new format ;-) As far as the ECW format itself, I don't think there will be an opensource implementation for the decoder because the format is non-documented, and even if it was documented, there are a few patents floating around which might prevent implementing it in countries allowing software patents (USA...) > Because working with larges rasters as 100 000 x 100 000 is now current, and > it's not easy to manipulate .TIF > 30 Go! You can try TIF with JPEG compression to reduce the size a bit, or use JPEG2000 that begins to have viable OpenSource implementations, like OpenJPEG, although still significantly slower than proprietary implementations. > Best regards > > -----Message d'origine----- > De : Even Rouault [mailto:[email protected]] > Envoyé : vendredi 23 mars 2012 14:15 > À : Fred ETHEVE > Cc : 'Jože DeteÄnik'; 'qgis-developer' > Objet : RE: [Qgis-developer] RE: ECW!!! > > Selon Fred ETHEVE <[email protected]>: > > > Thank you, all, > > ECW/win was OK with trunk (1.9.90) until 2 days before new nightly... > > perhaps, since, gdal used has been 1.9???!!! > > Yes, you should perhaps open a ticket (if not already done by someone else) > in OSGeo4W trac instance to ask for the gdal-ecw plugin to be regenerated > against GDAL 1.9 > > > It's time to have an opensource wavelets compression!!! > > 1) Somebody knows Epsilon CW?
