Hi, I am a current maintainer of 'Google Layers' plugin. I would like to propose dropping it in favor of 'OpenLayers' plugin, which is doing the same thing in much better way. Personally I use 'OpenLayers' too and I recommend it to all users interested in loading Google maps. The second reason could be legal. 'OpenLayers' plugins suites better also in this case.
