Hi
I'll just add that CS4231A was reportedly working, and that there was already a pull request / patch and RFC to enable CS4231A support for Solaris in
https://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2006-09/msg00225.html
which was apparently producing some noise already.
I'm trying to setup a Linux VM with CS4231A in a ISA slot, so far I wasn't able to add any ISA device at all in pc-i440fx, but it is supported as stated in
https://www.qemu.org/docs/master/system/i386/pc.html
I'll continue trying to confirm CS4231A is working, it all indicates that is the case.
Thank you for your time once again, and best regards,
Seb.

Hi Seb,
I'm not really sure of the status of the PC CS4231 driver in Linux and/or QEMU, so a
good place to start would be to test it with the latest QEMU. If that works (and it
is shown that the SS-5 and PC drivers in the kernel can be combined), then yes, in
theory it should be possible to make use of some of the existing code.
