I've done it with little trouble.

Please post the xml of the guest...
You should be able to find something like this in the xml:
<channel type='unix'>
<source mode='bind'
path='/var/lib/libvirt/qemu/channel/target/domain-PCVIRTdra/org.qemu.guest_agent.0'/>
<target type='virtio' name='org.qemu.guest_agent.0' state='connected'/>
<alias name='channel0'/>

If not, please make sure the location for the channel exist and has the correct
access rights:
root@CmsrvVH3:~# ls -lh /var/lib/libvirt/qemu/channel
totaal 4,0K
drwxr-xr-x 10 libvirt-qemu kvm 4,0K jul 1 08:57 target
