Our basic rule to granting commit access is that someone should have
contributed in some way (on the mailing list, with patches, etc) and
with high enough quality. Because we haven't seen those, it's hard to
assess the quality of your potential future contributions.

In any case, we should be moving to git some time in the near future
(although when exactly is somewhat unclear). There seems to be a
preference to switch to the existing MW infrastructure, so you would
be able to contribute using your normal gerrit credentials.
