I first suspected your rm -rf and later find -delete magic to clean up stuff, so converted this to dpkg-maintscript-helper dir_to_symlink (new in dpkg 1.17.2), but it still failed. I'll send you a patch once dpkg gets fixed (and debhelper gained support for the two new subcommands).
