Which should produce "a link to http://www.python.org/";.
This is actually documented in the RST reference:
http://docutils.sourceforge.net/docs/ref/rst/restructuredtext.html#embedded-uris-and-aliases
But it doesn't work. bug.rst produces a bogus link to "b_" using
rst2html.
The page you quoted says that this syntax works only since Docutils
0.11. So it's expected that it doesn't work yet.
