manual http request

Hi, I was wondering if there's a way to mimic a web pages' form and just manually send the http request and get the html response without having to go through a browser. For example, lets say i wanted to make a search on google of the key word "cars" but i want to be able to get the results of the search without having to go to google and typing it in and submiting it. Thanks.
