You can try this: >>> '/home/testuser/projects/'.strip( '/' ).split( '/' ) ['home', 'testuser', 'projects'] strip gets rid of the first and last / and split splits the remaining part and puts the results into a list. HTH :) -- http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
