But, yes, you are correct that ActivePython does not currently include the _ssl extension because of crypto export restriction legal rules. We've had a breakthrough here though (yeah!) and I'm hopeful that in the not too distant future I'll be able to include SSL in ActivePython (and other products I work on here at ActiveState).
