Of course ours is ordered *and* orderable ! You can explicitly alter the sequence attribute to change the ordering.
I think we're looking at improving performance based on some of the suggestions here - as well as possibly widening it to include some of the alternative use cases. (Or at least Nicola Larosa will do it and I'll criticise it). All for another day though...
