I used Visual Basic a long time in the past and I know what you mean. The ability to step through code line by line was very useful in a language where you often didn't know what was happening. I particularly loved the ability to hover the mouse over any variable or expression and see the value at that point in the code.
As a learning tool it would be excellent for Python, as would the ability to step through the code, hit an error, step back one line, change the line that caused the error and then continue stepping forward again. However I have to say that since using Python, I haven't needed these features as much (though I still would have liked to have them available).
