Unless I'm wrong (a distinct posibility) this isn't an option, as all though COM is used as the interface, it is used to talk to *in process* code loaded from a DLL - so Python can only be used if the interpreter is invoked from within a custom shell extension .dll, which is probably not the best idea for various reasons.
