Try wrapping the resqponse, it should be sufficiently file-like: response = urllib.request.urlopen(...) stream = io.TextIOWrapper(response, newline="", encoding="utf-8") rows = csv.DictReader(stream) -- https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
