Reading the doc helps :-) https://docs.python.org/2/library/tarfile.html For special purposes, there is a second format for mode: 'filemode|[compression]'. tarfile.open() will return a TarFile object that processes its data as a stream of blocks. With taro = tarfile.open(fileobj=sock.makefile('w',kB64),mode='w|') I get no more error. -- Ullrich Horlacher Server und Virtualisierung Rechenzentrum IZUS/TIK E-Mail: horlac...@tik.uni-stuttgart.de Universitaet Stuttgart Tel: ++49-711-68565868 Allmandring 30a Fax: ++49-711-682357 70550 Stuttgart (Germany) WWW: http://www.tik.uni-stuttgart.de/ -- https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
