I suspect this is partly because, if you're aiming for correct Unicode semantics, UTF-8 offers everything that UTF-16 does and more. The only reason to use UTF-16 is so you can pretend that UCS-2 is good enough. ChrisA -- https://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-list
