I finally got sort of smart, and started up a pydoc server. Looking at the sqlite3 docs through my browser, I see right off the bat, I see
#-*- coding: ISO-8859-1 -*- # pysqlite2/__init__.py: the pysqlite2 package. # # Copyright (C) 2005 Gerhard Häring <g...@ghaering.de> so my challenge is how to tell Python my terminal's encoding? It's clearly assuming ASCII. Mine is actually normally set to UTF-8, but I can select from a number of different encodings in the Preferences.
