The point I think he was trying to make is that Linux is better than
Windows, because the latter fails to fail on these assertions for some reason.

The point he's trying to make is that he also reads the pythondev mailing list, where Steven D'Aprano posted this very example, stating it is "Python 2 nonsense". Fixed in Python 3. Don't mention... :)
