Not entirely Martin, PyGUI is a real option to consider and PyWin32 is part of that option. Besides PyWin32 should have already been included. And PyWin32 should be standard even though Python support is not standard for Windows sadly:(. PyWin32 has been around for quite some time and has proven to be reliable.
