What kind of effect does this have on optimization efforts, for example all the stuff done by Antoine Pitrou over the last few months, and the first few results from unladen? Will it mean we won't get to the good optimizations until 4.0? Or does it just mean unladen swallow takes longer to come back to trunk (until 4.0) and every extension author who wants to be compatible with it will basically have the same burden as now?
