Couldn't test on Linux, but in Windows ...
os.chdir('C:\temp\my test')

WindowsError: [Error 123] The filename, directory name, or volume label
syntax is incorrect: 'C:\temp\\my test'
Oops. Should have been:
os.chdir(r'C:\temp\my test')
(no errors)
