Indeed. Well, my current solution is to bow to the collective wisdom and retain the self, but type it with just one symbol .-> ... in TextMate, with the Python bundle! (If only TextMate Python bundle woulldn't indent everything it pastes.... And that's how Ruby helps Python -- at the code's very inception TextMate!)
