TextMate, a shareware program, is also widely appreciated -- it has pretty good support for many languages, including Python. Personally, I swear by VIM (the full downloaded version with GUI support and everything, see <http://macvim.org/OSX/index.php>) but unless you like the general approach of vi I guess you're more likely to swear AT it than BY it:-).
