If I were you, I would consider obtaining the book Learning Python. I have the newer edition of Pratical Python, which is called Beginning Python: From Novice to Professional, and I wouldn't recommend it. I think Learning Python would be ideal except that it's a couple of years old, and therefore doesn't cover recent additions to python. Dive into Python is meant for experienced programmers.
