I'm not sure what that last sentence is supposed to mean, but I have visions (nightmares?) of someday having ANSI, ISO, IEEE, or some other such organization notice that something useful exists which they haven't yet standardized/broken and decide to form a committee to do it.
So long as the committee consists of one member who has the initials GvR and is known as the Python BDFL, we should be OK ;)
