Is it a bad thing? In my opinion it is better to be 2nd place for a long time than get to the top and fall short after that. Because then Python will be associated with certain thing (like Ruby with Rails, Java with Beans, C with two pluses, Fortran with 77 ;-) Its healthy for a Pythons to live in many different ecosystems.
