I think not; unless there are API details to be hashed out or counterarguments to be rebuffed, I think this is fairly simple and non-controversial. (If someone disagrees with me, then it's clearly at least somewhat controversial, and I withdraw the above.) Can you create a PR directly? If not, create a bugs.python.org issue to track it. Either way, it's up to the core devs to decide, but it shouldn't need all the overhead of a full PEP.
