Yes there are. 'a' + 'b' is not the same as 'b' + 'a'.
For non-numbers we only require + to be associative, i.e. a + b + c ==
(a + b) + c == a + (b + c).
That is satisfied for this proposal.
Are there any advantages of using '+' over '|'?
