About the current state: - master doesn't build anymore but https://github.com/python/cpython/pull/19281/files fixes it - for 3.8.2 the testsuite fails at test_asyncio which seems to exhausts all memory I'm going to investigate and see if I can come up with some patches to improve the situation. If anyone has interest in shell access to an illumos system or the buildbot I'd be happy to help out in the meantime.
