For the record, Gregory P Smith (current maintainer of hashlib -- if I'm not mistaken :-)), Jean-Paul Calderone (maintainer of pyOpenSSL) and Heikki Toivonen (maintainer of m2crypto) have been added to the nosy list for this issue.
