I don't think it's a good idea to make a change like this in a bugfix release, 
since it could break existing code (though admittedly code that probably isn't 
doing anything useful).

It's not a huge thing:  both the risk and the gain from making the change are 
small, but IMO the risk for a bugfix release outweighs the gain.

So I don't think 2.7.1 is an option.  2.7 is an option, but I'm trying to be 
disciplined given that we're already in release candidate stage.
