Giampaolo, IMHO you need 0.9.8m to reproduce the issue.
I installed it from the Debian testing repo (I'm on debian).
~ $ apt-cache policy openssl
openssl:

Maybe you could catch it on "Lucid" repositories, and if you have some chance,
it may be compatible with your ubuntu version.
