Stefan Krah <stefan-use...@bytereef.org> added the comment: What you mean by "working with bytestrings"? The UTF-8 separators or decimal points come directly from struct lconv (man localeconv). The logical way to reach a minimum width of 19 is to have 19 UTF-8 characters, which can subsequently be converted to other formats.
