Many thanks for the tips, and for the super-quick responses also! Yes indeed, what is happening here is that PY_VERSION_HEX is not being evaluated correctly. In fact what appears to be happening is that Include/patchlevel.h is not being considered in the compile despite "-IInclude" being on the compiler command line. Perhaps I have a compiler issue.
