It's not any worse than gevent ~breaking~ monkeypatching almost the entire 
standard library.  And to be fair to the author, it was created well before 
(2013-06-21) python3.5's `run` api existed (2015-04-14)

It's also the only problematic package that I could find -- if anything it's an 
indication that this feature is used (almost entirely) for good and without 
issue.
