Well, it's my personal opinion, but I think we should focus on a simple and straightforward solution for the present issue before beta3 is released (which is in 8 days now). It has already been difficult to find a (quasi-)consensus for a simple patch to adapt quote()/unquote() to the realities of bytes/unicode separation in py3k: witness the length of the present discussion.
