R. David Murray added the comment: I disagree, I think a __json__ protocol is sensible. But this is why it needs to be discussed on python-dev or python-ideas first :) In the meantime adding deque support like we added enum support is reasonable, but IMO we shouldn't go to crazy adding support for non-base types before talking about a __json__ protocol.
